Arthur Rowley is a football player who should have a statue.
Mrs Thistle has repeatedly said that Hereford should have a statue of Frank Oz with Yoda, Grover and Miss Piggy. It would give people a reason to go to Hereford.
I think Wilfred Owen should have a statue. He has a sculpture that looks like a pontoon in the grounds of Shrewsbury Abbey.

Influential former slaves in Britain, who don't have statues, but who are commemorated:

There's a portrait of Francis Barber in Dr Johnson's house.
Cesar Picton has many things named after him around Kingston.

From my travels:
Ray Charles has a plaza in Albany, GA, and a statue in Greenville, FL.
Bessie Smith has a cultural centre named after her in Chattanooga, but it was closed when we were in the city yesterday.
Fred Shuttlesworth has a statue in Birmingham, AL, near the churches where he and MLK organized the protests of 1963 and where four schoolgirls were murdered by a KKK bomb. This is a beautiful video about the latter location:

Monuments at the Edmund Pettus Bridge, Selma, Alabama. The one of John Lewis is currently adorned with flowers. I will post up the photo we took yesterday when I get home but this is the story behind it

Not a statue but today we drove through Plains, GA, birthplace of Jimmy Carter, meaning we are currently in peanut and pecan territory. We visited Carter's Presidential Library in Atlanta about 3 years ago.
WTF fact: Carter was the first future President to be born in a hospital.

I had no idea that John Lewis's casket was going to be taken across the bridge today, just two days after we paid our respects at his memorial plaque at the site

Surely you had better things to do with your time than pay respects to him?
