    Vera Lynn has died.

Great. More fucking wallowing and drowning in WW2 nostalgia.

When I read that title I thought the queen had died.

        RIP, DVL.

There'll be few tears shed in the Bogside of Derry, because of her defence of the Paras after Bloody Sunday.

Inevitable thread title, unless you wanted to go with "The white stiff of Dover"? Probably not

The most interesting thing about We'll Meet Again was that it was performed on a Hammond Novachord, arguably the world's first synthesizer.

Every time I see Lynn's name anywhere, I'm reminded of a Ken Dodd joke made during the build-up to the 1990 Gulf War - 'There's going to be a war, y'know - I walked past Vera Lynn's house the other day and heard gargling...'.

                    Dress rehearsal innit?

@elguapo: I won't claim to be a spokesman for inner city Nationalist NI, but isn't glazed indifference the likely reaction?

Dame Vera doesn't look too comfortable in Bob Calvert's grasp there...

                      ...or is it Dave Brock?

                        It's Brock, I'd say.

That's quite a grip he's got on her.

He looks like Diana Rigg in Theatre of Blood.

Definitely Brock. That Hawkwind gig tale could have only been bettered if Vera had belted out guest vocals on You Shouldn’t Do That whilst joining Stacia front stage in a state of undress.

Never realised she was an East Ham lass either.

Well meet again to bring the house down?

The bloke with the hat on looks like he's got really short arms.

That'll be the legend that is Dave Hill.

Dame Vera has by far the shortest hair, though.

(Edit: Is anyone else getting a really strange effect that makes her blouse look pale yellow?)

TBH I'd have thought that Hawkwind would be keeping a low profile today after the cock-up they made in yesterday's Villa-Blades game.

My mate Caroline was a promoter for the gig so got to meet Dame V (and interview Spike Milligan). She was led on by Lemmy.
