    Can Protests change the law?

Didn't want to clog up the White Supremacy thread any further.

I believe that the law is a construct which is an expression of power relations and when people ignore the law or disobey the law or show that the law is in contempt then the law is changed. often the actual changing of the law is a recognition of the contempt people have for the law or changing the unfair way the law is applied.

See for example the prohibition of the possession of marijuana, a law which is very rarely applied these days - and is usually applied partially.

Yes. Poll tax, 1964 Civil Rights Act in the US, Stonewall, feminist protests against rape laws.

Caveat: they usually have a better chance of success if combined with other forms of political pressure
