My late mother (lifelong Labour even though they wouldn't let her vote for them) saw it the other way round. For her, every leader from Gaitskell to Brown had sold out. She spared only Callaghan, but I think that was more down to the twinkle in Stoker Jim's eye than any great commitment to the Social Contract

Probably they prefer sticking to the quaint convention where you don't accuse people who blatantly and provably lie a lot of being liars and people who blatantly give favours to their friends of being corrupt. I'm sure that the other side will respect that when the time comes.

I saw a thoroughly fatuous and vacuous thread of drivel reporting on Rayner and some godawful Fabian do. Hang on...

Some actual content may have been added since I stopped reading in horror, I guess.

Only Starmer could manage to increase Labour's Opinium lead and simultaneously see his own net approval rating slashed by five points to +10:

Fucking hell. As I’ve said on Twitter I’d be raising eyebrows at the appointment of a former military intel officer of ANY foreign power being appointed to that post.
Don’t tell me they don’t have people with the skills who’ve been in the Party for years, or would that go against equal ops?

This is fucking outrageous _the Chakrabarti report was praised by the Chief Rabbi at the time - and until Ruth Smeeth intervened.
it was also practical by the EHRC

Tugendhat and Smeeth are good buddies, going by an article in the Guardian a while back, and he backed her appointment to the Index on Censorship. .

If you’re looking for a leader to the right of Corbyn may I recommend E Miliband

Yeah that's the problem; Burnham, also. Fatal lack of nerve at the vital hour. Which is why people turned to Corbyn for all his failings; historically, unswervingly, absolutely, of the left, a rare creature left in Labour in 2015. You knew he was a lefty, basically. Harder to say that of subsequent aspirants because of their lack of history.
