As you probably know, certain of the Haredi communities here (particularly Hasidim in Brooklyn) have significant political power on the local level given their willingness to vote en bloc (and long tradition of doing so). That can't work in England given the very different way in which local government works, whereas in NYC a few thousand votes can be outcome determinative in City Council, State Assembly and even State Senate elections.
