Yeah they saw everything the Corbyn leadership did as an authoritarian power grab because they can't believe that people would be in politics for any other purpose.

I know this is a side issue here, but that tendency in Labour - and certain parts of union leadership - to view liberalism as an enemy of the workers, and to consider it - at best - a dangerous distraction from the big picture, was always one of the things that put me off the party. The fact that it was deep seated rather than opportunistic was even more disturbing.

Strange that you didn't support Corbyn's Labour, given he and his shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott have an impeccable record on civil liberties. whilst Civil Liberties maven Sir Keir is insisting on abstaining on a bill which gives the police and secret service the right to commit crimes, up to and including murder, with impunity.

        All gone.

sudden flashback to a party for Obama election which was full
of young Labour SPADs arguing for increasing the length of detention to 90 days

                they’re probably all Mp’s now

it really is just a game.

Labour is pretty much doomed to the SLab trajectory in England I fear. Pissing off the voters you have left to chase the ones who aren't coming back and pleasing no one at all. Fuck knows what comes next. Probably fucking Vox with a cloth cap.

Labour cannibalising the LibDem Remainers and Green votes while the Tories get cover from whatever wheeze Farage thinks of next?

The only way i would vote for the shower of bastards currently running Labour in place of my Lib Dem support would be tactically anti-Tory. And given that LD were just 3,000 off the Tories in S Cambs last general election, with Labour nowhere, I'm pretty sure to stay LD. If our ward gets moved into the Cambridge parliamentary constituency, which is a 2 horse Lab- LD race I'd have to think a bit harder about it. But I'm pretty sure that I'd vote LD because (a) there is absolutely zero chance that in a hung parliament LD will go anywhere near supporting a Brexit Tory party in government, the Tories and LD are getting more and more into opposites of each other every month, and (b) I would prefer an LD-Lab coalition to a Lab majority because LDs might actually bring in some kind of basic respect for civil liberties.
