I think he was there to applaud the club's community work rather than actually expecting to see a game.

Walsall is quite run down and Brexit-y but the South constituency, where the ground is, still has a Labour MP, so it's an appealing destination to road test the 'work, faith, family' stuff, perhaps.

It's not the centrism necessarily that's so fucking depsressing. Sturgeon's Nats are beige centrists to the core, and not very great at being a semi government, but they are way better at projecting an image of competence, empathy and not being in thrall to the media than the shower of pish that is nu nu U.K. Labour. That faith flag and family bollocks is a Will Hutton op ed come to life. That cunt still thinks he can Save Britain with The Proms and Stekeholder Capitalism.

Starmer needs to appeal well beyond Labour's remaining marginals in the Black Country. He'd be better off going to the sticks. Even if nearby Aldridge Brownhills (Tory majority 50%) is probably out of reach

          shameless

It's now all Remainer Corbyn's fault

Absolutely, I just thought that going somewhere that looks like some of the places he needs to win back, but where a friendly face can meet him off the train, might be a way of easing into the task.

I have seen the future of Aldridge-Brownhills and it is Green. The trim on WFC's 20/21 kit is the shade of things to come..

Why are they such fucking idiots

We will be more responsible with public money than the tories

By all means call out Johnson's corruption, but any one with half a brain can see that there's going to be a need for huge public funding in the next while to overcome the effects of Covid19 and Brexit to say nothing of a Green New Deal to deal with the Cilmate Emergency.

There's an opportunity, there's even a pretty good plan. But there are a collection of cowards at the helm, sadly.

                          meanwhile in the Financial Times

Rishi Sunak is to extend the Treasury’s UK-wide programme of business support loans as ministers race to cushion the economy from what England’s chief medical officer will on Monday call “a very challenging winter”. Mr Sunak is this week expected to unveil plans to extend four loan schemes, which have already backed ?53bn in lending to companies through government guarantees, in a sign that new national support measures are needed to avert widespread business collapses and mass job losses. The move to bolster businesses comes as the government weighs up whether to do more to counter the spread of Covid-19, including new national restrictions in England. Sadiq Khan, London mayor, on Sunday held talks with ministers on possible new restrictions in the capital. A spokesperson for Mr Khan said the situation was “clearly worsening”, and hinted at imminent action: “The mayor wants fast action as we cannot risk a delay.” Mr Khan is considering urging workers to stay at home, reversing recent government efforts to coax people back into their offices.

Does anyone ( apart from Rachel Reeve) really think this is a good idea, politically or economically?

Doing a great job of accepting the premise that economic responsibility means low taxes and ensuring pret-a-manger stay in business

I am sure this will work as well as it has for Labor in Australia.

But it will be Britain First in a very forensic way.

Is it over yet? This is the first time ever that I've dreaded a Labour leader's conference speech. I really don't want to hear the patriotism shit. I was going to listen, but when I heard the gushing, snide intro he got I turned off in disgust.

The observation that the Tories have no concept of value is obviously accurate - but when presented as the core of Labour's own ambition it seems hollow, to say the least.

How the hell have Lisa Nandy and Rachel Reeve got so prominent recently? Unless they have spotted the gap in the market and decided that what Labour really needs is their own version of Priti Patel.
