That sounds like something that would be overheard and misinterpreted by a meddlesome social worker in a sitcom "Yes, Mummy makes us wear litter bags as raincoats". Hilarity would ensue.

I had no idea what Animal Crossing was, apart from hearing it mentioned on here by Balderdasha and Femme Folle so in a free moment (let's face it procrastination moment), I looked it up, and this was pretty much the first article that came up. I thought it was pretty interesting (it didn't really bring me any closer to understanding what animal crossing is, but it provided an interesting framework into looking at how the game fits into people's worlds) https://www.theatlantic.com/family/a...itical/610012/

Nishlord plays it too. He came to visit and my islanders won't stop telling me how great he is.
AC is like a simpler, mini version of The Sims. I think that's why I find it so enjoyable. I was addicted to The Sims for a few years, but couldn't bring myself to play it after the Venezuelan catfish incident. I tried, but just couldn't get into it.

Apparently octopodes is another alternative, and while many people think octopi is the correct term, actually it's me who's right and octopuses is the correct term:

Day 106. Friday 3rd July. The end of 15 weeks of home schooling. Not that much home schooling has actually taken place this week.
Daughter wet the bed in the middle of the night so we were exhausted from dealing with that. Let the kids just play Animal Crossing all morning, with the new swimming and diving for sea urchin possibilities.
Daughter did one maths worksheet. Son made houses for the three little pigs out of Duplo. I made bolognese for everyone for lunch and then went by bus to the hospital to have blood tests. Chatted to a couple of people on the phone while walking home.
When I got back, my daughter was really pleased and proud to show me that she'd tidied up the whole lounge by herself. She'd put all the Duplo and toys away and hoovered and neatened up the sofas, covering them carefully with throws and putting cushions and cuddly toys on them. Very sweet.
I made a veggie paella for dinner with peppers, peas and artichokes. My husband added prawns and pollock for him and the kids. The kids have decided that they love prawns, which is great from a health perspective but not so great for the bank balance. Son likes them so much that he has requested to eat prawns every day for lunch. That probably won't be happening.
Watched the first half hour of Return of the King and now the kids are having a bath.Last edited by Balderdasha; 03-07-2020, 18:43.

Today’s leg of the drive was fairly short - just to Albuquerque. My observation thus far is that New Mexico is taking this shit ten times more seriously than Arizona. Arizona has almost 100% of the states ICU beds in use and people are still all out on their July 4th jollies, many unmasked, many crowded together. Everything I’ve seen since crossing the border suggests that people here are way more cautious. Not seen one
person unmasked yet. AZ has 4,000 new cases per day; NM about 250.

Anyway, I'm in - 12.05pm on Saturday.
I was expecting to wait at the door, be asked to put on my mask, be let in by the hairdresser who would be wearing a visor (as the owner claimed) and be processed with a minimum of potential germ-spreading social chit-chat. What actually happened was that I went in through the unlocked door where two men without masks were having their hair cut and two other men were waiting, also without masks. The two hairdressers had simple masks on rather than visors and my one struggled to keep her's over her mouth, let alone her nose!
All a bit shambolic really, with no-one taking it particularly seriously, other than me.

Today’s stretch of road trip was short (both in distance and in the gazetteer. From Albuquerque to Amarillo. The contrast is special. Crossing the state line into New Mexico we got phone warnings about COVID, to wear masks, and so on. Highway signage was full of it. Crossing into Texas and it’s much more diseased; no signage anywhere, maybe 20% masked, but full of dirty looks for wearing masks. Nobody is distancing. State full of idiots.
