2,788 new cases in Canada today and 33 new deaths. BC has recorded our worst day for new cases since the pandemic began with 274, plus two deaths. The increase is mostly due to social events; weddings, funerals etc. Which begin being well organised but tend to expand as more people arrive, and people begin to interact more fluidly as the day goes on.

What caused the Damascene moment I've no idea.
From after half term students are expected to wear masks in communal areas, meaning anywhere outside of their year group bubble.
We've had 29 suspected cases since September. Nothing confirmed though.
Term to date - 2 COVID cases. Immediate two week out of school and testing for all the class. Zero spread.
Now this is a small school in a relatively wealthy suburb, so everyone is playing along very carefully. In fact I know out of the cases, at least one was a teacher (it was my eldest's class).
This all can be done with relatively sensible rules and, for sure, not an undue amount of care, attention and effort by teachers. The idea that they only know started to push on masks in school - along with the mask-phobia from the UK Government until now - is stunning and depressing.

Salem, Massachusetts usually gets big crowds this time of year. Not only have they cancelled all their October/Halloween events, they’re trying to essentially close the town. The train station is closed. Most of the parking is closed after dark. Basically, you can’t come unless you live there or have a restaurant reservation.

Switzerland hurtling down a new lockdown abyss at breakneck speed...Canton Valais, one of the most lax cantons so far has decided to restrict severely straightaway in order to save ski season (Zermatt is there)...Geneva very bad too, private clinics have been commandeered already and testing capacity is to be ramped up due to 4 days delays to get a test currently.

It's OK, there's some mad old bat getting trotted out in the papers and telly saying it is all ridiculous as "In the Blitz, we went to the shelters and the we went to work".
Weirdly, no-one asked her what job she had when she was four years old, and whether she lost any co-workers on account of them being bombed to death.

I wonder how the last hour before complete lockdown (at 6pm tonight) will go in Wales. I put BBC news on expecting some reporting from Cardiff but nothing so far. Has it driven everyone out for one last hurrah in the pubs?
