And Italians are famous for their absolute commitment to obeying the law.

Neither the French nor the Italians would put up with the below

Ah yes, the sweet freedom that comes from shuffling off this mortal coil.

383 new Covid-19 cases confirmed today in Scotland, which is the 6th highest daily total since the outbreak began.
The last time a higher total was recorded was on 15th April. It brings the total number of new positive tests in Scotland recorded over the last 7 days to 1993.
1 further death of someone who returned a positive test in the last 28 days, bringing the total under that measure to 2506.

Much of the latest restrictions announced are similar to England, with all pubs in Scotland having to shut at 10pm from Friday.
The restriction on household visits which is already in operation in the West of Scotland will be extended across all of Scotland from tomorrow.

You can't catch Covid in a pub before 10pm, right. And all the taxis turn into pumpkins at midnight.

Johnson gave a decent address where he announced the new measures (not applicable to Dominic Cummings) which were slowly tightening the restrictions (not applicable to Dominic Cummings) with the threat of big fines (not applicable to Dominic Cummings) and enforcement by the police (not applicable to Dominic Cummings).

I agreed with everything that he was saying, but there this was this little voice on my shoulder telling me why people will probably ignore it all.

The outbreak in Argentina is still getting worse. Over 12,000 new cases yesterday and 470 new deaths, the highest daily total for deaths so far. Though, in terms of deaths per million population, at 308, Argentina is still not faring as badly as Brazil and Peru.

Sunday is election day here. As most polling stations are actually schools, the government has mandated that schools be closed this Friday and next Monday and Tuesday, so that there is a two day gap either end of the elections for disinfecting etc. I'm not averse to the schools being closed (even though 2 days seems excessive, especially since it seems that aerosol infections are far more of an issue than hand transfer ones), but it does rather make one wonder how the schools are open in the first place if this level of deep cleaning has to take place the moment some strangers enter the buildings.
