California reported over 4,000 new cases yesterday for the first time (per Worldometer).
It was under 1,000/day back in March when lockdown started and has been rising ever since.
26 Mar first day over 1,000 cases; 20 Apr first over 2,000; 30 May first over 3,000.
      Mostly driven by LA.

Texas, Florida and California trending upwards significantly, with highest level of cases so far in TX and FL. In fact, the whole South is trending up but those three hitting four digit numbers.

4 deaths and 16 cases today in Ireland, so stats have been relatively constant for the last fortnight.

Striking rather than astounding, I would have thought. And imagine how it would look without California.

This week the UK has seen 8,865 new confirmed cases and 980 deaths, but apparently this is marvellous, the virus is only "in general circulation" and we can carry on easing restrictions.

San Diego County has 13 tests for maintaining reopening. They've all been "green light" for a while (number of tests, number of hospital beds, falling or static positive test rate, and so on). But yesterday there were 8 "community outbreaks" in the previous seven days, and this puts one of the triggers onto a red light for a week and we are pausing our reopening plan.

The number of community outbreaks is worrying, but it's reassuring to know that the county actually does live up to its word and reacts to negative data. Unlike everyone else in American who seem to just put their fingers in their ears and ignore it.

(A "community outbreak" appears to be 3 or more cases in one location that don't have a known external source. A couple of ours have been in restaurants, but others have been in social clubs which shouldn't be open in the first place)

There's quite a big pyschological (and presumably therefore political) difference between pausing reopening, and actually locking down again. You would also expect that pausing the reopening wouldn't improve the epidemiological situation, merely maintain the pace of deterioration.

Wales had 4 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Mark Drakeford has said they want to keep the 5 mile travel limit for another 2 weeks. They're also going to redig Offa's Dyke to prevent incursions from the diseased inhabitants of Lloegr.
