In July, Vietnam had reported only 400 cases, zero deaths and had had no new cases reported for 99 days so they pretty much opened everything back up and went back to life as normal. Now, there's been an outbreak in Da Nang, cases have jumped to 789 and there have been 10 deaths. The government has acted swiftly to close things again and track and trace, and I think they'll be successful in stopping it again. It shows that even with an aggressive, effective approach, the virus can flare up with even the tiniest toehold.

Meanwhile, the UK reported 871 new cases in one day yesterday, and doesn't seem to have much idea of where those were all contracted.

Brazil's outbreak may be peaking. The seven-day average for daily new cases has dropped from over 46,000 per day to under 43,000 per day. Still rampant, but possibly slowing a little.

It would appear Wrexham is Wales's version of Da Nang.

California's data system has failed, likely leading to a "significant" undercount in the number of cases. It wasn't designed to handle the number of cases in this pandemic.

Thanks for the link. That's very interesting, though I suspect that "Susan Coffin, an infectious disease physician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia" may suffer from the odd, unexpected appointment cancellation.

Heh! My dad used to say that: "It wasn't the cough, that carried him off, it was the coffin they carried him off in."

My mammy always told me if you don't have something good to say about someone, then you shouldn't say anything at all, so I'll limit myself to the good news that some day Toby Young will die, and society won't have to endure him any more.

Today is the first time since June 26th that the UK has reported more than 1,000 new cases in one day again. The fact that this is happening at the weekend suggests new numbers next week might be even higher.
