I also don't think that the Irish property tax is left-wing, mind, so I guess we have some different ideas about politics. I'd not have Irish Labour as of or on the left either.

(I guess I'm assuming by "right-left prism" you mean the idea that parties can easily be slotted into boxes like the ones people slot the the major parties in Britain into. If I've misunderstood, let me know.)
As the others have noted, the modern generation of SF are largely catch-all populists of the mentality that Fianna Fáil used to specialise in, and worse again largely failing to vet their candidates last time out, so among those elected included one with anti-vaxx views, and another who engaged in conspiracy theories. Another contradiction exists in terms of the dichotomy between the Northern and Southern wings, with the former blocking abortion reforms in NI for many years, and relying on recourse to Westminster when Stormont fails to enact desired projects, firstly welfare reforms and now the Irish language act.

Just as an aside, I don't think people should be quoting posters to get around the ignore poster function. If someone has chosen to ignore, then that's their right, and they can easily read the page not logged in if they want to read something by someone on their ignore list. By all means say something along the lines of "that's an excellent post TAB, I recommend that Ton Ton reads it" but people use the ignore poster for all sorts of reasons and third parties shouldn't be second guessing them.

We don't always know who is ignoring whom.

Next time round there might be but would depend on PBP/WP, Soc Dem, Labour, GP and SF aligning on some form of policy
The main problem aside from there being nowhere near enough seats, is the realisation that the only thing remotely Green about Sinn fein is the Diesel that some of their members like to launder. Their manifestos, policies and general demeanour are all about being extremely strong on environmentalism in principle, but opposed to letting saving the environment impinge on anyone anywhere at any time. So Strongly in favour of meeting the various climate accords, however violently against any means of reaching them, be they through Carbon taxes, or environmental taxes, violently opposed to looking for Carbon dioxide cuts from the agricultural sector, and, er violently opposed to the building of any infrastructure anywhere that anyone might object to. (See the North-south interconnector, and that dangerous thuggish bastard Matt Carthy demanding that Ultimately the state and the consumer pay up to10 times as much to put the fucking line under the ground, while telling his voters that it was cheaper, and that the govt was lying to them for no reason.) and as for one off housing? Well you can work out their attitude to one off housing yourself.

The problem is that some of the more idealistic, and er less practical members of the green party believed this bullshit about sinn fein being a left wing party, and didn't notice the yawning chasm between rhetoric, and their stance on virtually every key practical issue. But I don't think many of them were going to be happy in any kind of govt. The truth is that sinn fein were nowhere near being in power after the last election, you would have to be out of your mind to go into coalition with them. You can see exactly how they behave in the northern assembly. They don't play well with others.

Obsession with the bad juju of overhead power lines isn't unique to SF, it seems an article of faith in Culchieland those things will kill you with their evil rays. See also windfarms.

If this poll were to be accurate, Ivana Bacik would win the Dublin Bay South by-election on transfers:

Although the actual turnout demographics would appear to favour Boylan out of the big three:

39% being relatively high for an Irish by-election with two hours at that point until polls closed.

FG needed to be ahead on the first count to have any chance of success, but now apparent that Bacik will be elected after transfers:

Officially Fianna Fáil's worst-ever electoral rout, which should dampen Jim O'Callaghan's leadership plans, given he was Director of Elections. Meanwhile, in the "bald people fighting over a comb" update, Justin Barrett (176) is just three votes ahead of Dolores Cahill (173).

Jim o callaghan's leadership ambitions entirely in his own mind I'm afraid. He was running in that constituency when I was in college (as was noel whelan) and when he couldn't get elected for fianna fail under bertie, he should have taken the fucking hint.

Fair dues to bacik for getting elected, because if you were following the coverage, you'd be forgiven for thinking that this was a straight shoot out between fine gael and sinn fein.

It's amazing the degree to which the rise of sinn fein is propelled by our political media and their desire to cover politics like some sort of sporting event. Sinn fein went into the last election looking to avoid a third consecutive hiding following the local elections where they were wiped out in large parts of the state, on top of losing two mep's and got brutalised in the presidential election. (Hence their absurd manifesto and turbo charged clientelist promises that they could never get near implementing if they got into power.)

This relentless focus on these two parties, encouraged by the volubility of their awful supporters online, is a real problem for everyone else

Justin Barrett is the " Leader " of the National party, Ireland's Nazi party , horrible little fucker, he's 5'2" , and very chummy with US right wing groups.

So they've given the government a bloody nose by voting for the government instead of the government?

Dublin Bay South would be a very middle-class constituency, apart from Ringsend and Harold's Cross, so while Chris Andrews was elected for SF last year, Bacik is about as radical as things get there.

have you been to Harolds X lately? It’s solidly middle class and has been for at least 25 years.

Ringsend is mixed, though mixed in the way the Liberties is getting.
