Clearly, the strict issue of legality is not for the UK to determine since it was not our operation," he explained. “But most reasonable people would accept that the United States has the right to protect its bases and its personnel."
The PM said General Soleimani had supplied "improvised explosive devices to terrorists, which I'm afraid killed and maimed British troops".
He added he was "very surprised" that Mr Corbyn had not condemned the activities of the Revolutionary Guard commander.
Mr Corbyn asked: "Isn't the truth this Prime Minister is unable to stand up to President Trump because he has hitched his wagon to a trade deal with the United States and that prioritises everything else that he ought to be considering?

Jeremy Corbyn branded the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani "illegal" during an interview with Sky News on Tuesday night, and refused to condemn him as a terrorist.
Speaking to Sky's Deputy Political Editor Sam Coates, the outgoing Labour leader claimed the killing of the Iranian military commander in a US drone strike last Friday violated international law.
He said that to "assassinate an official of a foreign government in a third country" is illegal, and refused to say whether he accepted that Soleimani was a terrorist.

I'm not sure anyone is disagreeing with yoiu, Nef.
On the Macaire arrest, I'd be interested to know how many other heads of mission attended the vigil before it kicked off. Without wishing to be too rude to an ex-colleague, he never struck me as a particularly political thinker. I can't see him making a unilateral decision on this, or any other issue in Iran.

I'm surprised that the WaPo thought that the administration's claim that Soleimani's assassination was a "defensive move" was worthy of serious consideration. No point having a "both sides" view on this when one has been lying systematically for three years since Trump assumed office, and that Trump's political incentives are so obvious.
