Yeah it's not devolved in Scotland either but I think the Scottish Govt can use their control of the planning process to block developments like this.

At this stage, the DUP are recycling narratives as swiftly as heat:

Yeah the first thing to remember is that anything Andrew RIGHT TWAT Davies says is bullshit. The second thing to remember is he spews his nonsense on direct orders from Westminster which is why Westminster finagled him back as leader of the "Welsh" Conservatives. He is an obedient dolt who has never had an original thought of his own that doesn't involve food.
It's an odd avenue of attack though. "He's not a unionist!!!!" I don't think people really give a shit. The union government seems to be full of corrupt amoral cunts who swing in the political winds like corpses on gibbets, so it's more like a compliment.Last edited by Patrick Thistle; 26-09-2021, 21:50.

It's actually Andrew Russell T Davies and it comes from the fact that he was originally conceived as a Doctor Who villain before BBC Wales decided a Tory politician was a much scarier monster.Last edited by Bizarre Löw Triangle; 27-09-2021, 06:30.

Colm Toibin is not a fan of the idea of Irish unification:

He does rather overegg Varadkar and Coveney's support for Irish unity, as stating that they could see it happening within their lifetimes tends to mean 20-30 years from now, when there's a clear majority in NI for it, and the political and economic systems are sufficiently synchronised to minimise disruption. Of course, the concerns of Protestants need to be taken on board, and any enterprise that seeks to merely export the present Republic into a 32-county system would be cloth-headed, to say the least, but to imply that SF must never be allowed to enter government down South shows somewhat of a generational blindness, even if the current leadership continue to excuse the atrocities of the past.

Discordant Resonance Toibin does quote Coveney referring his political lifetime though- which does bring the dread day closer, assuming that Simon doesnt plan to spend his dotage in the Aras

I love how he quotes McDowell as some kind of anti-Authoritarian authority. That cunt and the creeping Jesus follow up Noel Ahern were the most authoritarian justice Ministers in modern Ireland. Not to mention Mikey's racist pandering referendum.

The Merchant Prince is angling for UN or EU sinecure befitting his Big Brain and even bigger sense of self-importance, Dunc. Maybe he'd see Phoenix Park to be a suitable semi-retirement.
I'd also like to see how someone once renowned for being thick as fuck performs when not surrounded by the Best and the Brightest at the DFA. Those folk could almost make Marc MacSharry look sentient.

SImon Coveney is one of those blueshirts, who likely firmly believes that it will be his turn to lead fine gael at some point in the future. This is a big problem for them. No fianna fail leader ever really thought that it was going to be their turn (except for perhaps Lemass) and that they would have to clamber to power over the political corpses of their enemies, leaving you with a situation that if you could clamber to the top of Fianna Fail, blueshirts weren't going to pose you too many problems.

Giggly wee Richard Bruton wasnt fit to be in charge of fuck all not even the family farm, and was fool enough to think having the backing of a friendless malcontent like Kieran O'Donnell would be enough to pull off a palace coup against stupid but cunning Inda. So there might be something in your theory there Berba, except for Fianna Fail looking complete fucked beyond repair and the Shinners looking like their successors in every way.Last edited by Lang Spoon; 02-10-2021, 22:18.

We're an odd electorate. If you don't give us what we want, when we want it, we'll vote for someone who will, but If you give us what we want, and it turns out to be really really bad for us, we reserve the right to blame you personally. If Fianna Fail had lost power in 2007 they'd be close to an overall majority now.

According to the MP for the Vale of Clwyd, Wales has never operated as a united political entity, and generally reflects trends in the North of England.
