Given that one of the touted explanations for Wales voting for Brexit was the large number of English living there, I struggle to see Wales choosing independence even were there to be a majority of Welsh people being Pro independence.
Which is a shame.
Last time out for the Scottish I was pro union for entirely selfish reasons. Having Scotland's population and MPs acted as a brake on the more unpleasant aspects of us English.
Since Brexit though my attitude has changed very much to "save yourselves." There's no point Scotland and Wales going over the cliff in a clown car full of English racists if they can avoid it.
I only wish there was a serious push for Greater London to secede from the UK.

A problem with the current Labour emphasis on radical devolution / federalism is that there is no written constitution to protect it. Any future Act of Parliament in Westminster could wipe it out. (Currently the Westminster Government could abolish the Senedd and Holyrood if it wanted or felt it could get away with it.) Unless there are checks on what Westminster can do then devolution is never going to be protected.
A written constitution is one of the proposals but the Guardian article.mentions it limiting the power of the monarchy not Westminster.
I agree with the idea of replacing the house of Lords but it's not going to happen. For Labour to bring this about they have to win an election and they aren't electable while they keep chasing after the votes of brexit cultists.Last edited by Patrick Thistle; 01-02-2021, 08:49.Comment
