The first thing you have to do is recognise the assets in the field. The two biggest airports in Wales are basically RAF bases. The SAS is based in Brecon. There are artillery ranges and barracks everywhere. What are you going to do about them if you go Indy? You have to find a way to ask those now-foreign troops to leave.

Then you have the BBC with their fuck off giant Orwellian monolith in Cardiff Centre and a good chunk of Cardiff Bay. What to do about that? Nationalise it as CWBC? Turn it into a state broadcaster? Or leave it as an potential (ha!) powerful mouthpiece for the London government? What about other media? The Western Mail.and the local rags are all owned by Trinity Mirror.

You can't go UDI and wait for the invasion. You have to treat it as an occupation now and begin by neutralising or removing the threats.

Why don't ye just get a good history of the Irish war of independence? It's literally all in there. You have to start by burning down every police station at once, forcing the occupying power back into the army barracks. Literally everyone has copied it, play by play. You also need a few martyrs. Get some students to take over a symbolic building that is impossible to defend. Ibrox or something. Hold out for as long as possible. When they are caught and put in prison, make sure they drop some hints about being loyal to Michel Barnier. Johnson will have them shot for treason and the Scottish population will be so outraged that support for independence will increase to 80%.

In the case of Scotland today, they already have their own parliament. They could indeed just stop going to Westminster and just split off their bit of the NHS etc, set up their own taxation system and stop interacting with the UK. Might even be possible to unilaterally switch to the euro. Plenty of Latin American countries are using the dollar without having joined the USA. You wouldn't need to have an independence referendum, just sell it as increased autonomy. Independence by stealth.
