    Irish alt-right latest.

Following recent events in Oughterard, and the recent decision of the Ryan family to leave the country over attacks by Twitter trolls, a dedicated thread seems necessary to track the development of such influences, particularly through social media. The latest epicentre appears to be the Monaghan town of Carrickmacross, where the county GAA manager, Seamus McEnaney, has opened a direct provision centre, but as the new arrivals have little to occupy them, they have no choice but to congregate in the town square. After a local woman was allegedly raped, however, a petition has been signed by 1,500 people, while Gemma O'Doherty and John McGuirk's Gript Media have jumped on the bandwagon:

I was in oughterard yesterday, that's not a good description of what was going on there at all DR . And Noel Grealish seems to have shat the bed locally. aside from having had a refugee centre before that had to shut down, a lot of it came down to the the guy who owned the connemara gateway. That place was closed because it turned out that he hadn't paid his drinks licence for the final six years of operation, and closed down the hotel owing a lot of locals a lot of money. He would have faced considerable challenges to his personal safety were he ever to set foot there again.

TAB, unless the three (or so) of you want to keep this among yourselves, you are going to have to provide more background for those of us who aren't resident in Ireland. I was just trying to give Guy the most basic of introductions to what has been going on,

I'd rather hear it from a reliable source tbf.

No, the story in the OP isn't about Oughterard, but purported events in Monaghan - hard to know what the true nature of events there were, when the only reports are so sketchy. Of course, linking everything together are two leaders of micro-parties, Justin Barrett of the National Party, who has attended neo-Nazi rallies in the past, and Hermann Kelly, of the Irexit party. Both subscribe to the "Grand Replacement" theory, generally blaming George Soros or/and the EU.

Sinn Féin TD defends asylum seekers in Leitrim, his car is promptly burnt.

Something is building here, however much Berba thinks Ireland is grand. With the likes of Collins, Grealish, Mattie and FitzMaurice etc there's already far right fellow travellers in the Dail. The failure to get rid of Direct Provision (and more broadly lack of social housing) during either this mini boom or the old Long Bubble will haunt Irish politics for the foreseeable.

Achill is the latest to join the west of Ireland gang of cunts, apparently they don't have the infrastructure to house 13 displaced women for 3 months. Shower of fucks have the infrastructure to take 1,,000s of tourists every year.

Aye. And the prevalent "they're all the same" attitude toward politicians (not helped by the current Dail voting/key fob clock in then fuck off scandal) will help her if she picked the right ripe constituency. Despite being obviously full of shit she got over 10000 Dublin wide votes in the MEP elections. Plenty of under 35s in my work who make questionable as fuck comments toward teh Blacks/Muslims/travellers that she wouldn't just be getting the elderly pursed lip bile vote either potentially.

I always thought it was too good to be true that Scotland and Ireland were the only places in Europe where the far right hadn't gone mainstream.

Between this Great Awakening against Refugees in Ireland and the transphobic opportunist populist Salmond apologist wing of the SNP/Wings over Scotland cunts becoming open in their bullshit as Sturgeon looks set to be defenestrated in January, I fear the last holdouts have fallen.

. I imagine in a country like ireland where reactionary forces have taken a battering in the last years there's a lot of resentment.
The fash is always more popular than you think. But never as poular as they want you to believe,

Above all you have to argue with people. And tell them when they've gone too far. When they're out of order. By whatever means are appropriate.
