Following recent events in Oughterard, and the recent decision of the Ryan family to leave the country over attacks by Twitter trolls, a dedicated thread seems necessary to track the development of such influences, particularly through social media. The latest epicentre appears to be the Monaghan town of Carrickmacross, where the county GAA manager, Seamus McEnaney, has opened a direct provision centre, but as the new arrivals have little to occupy them, they have no choice but to congregate in the town square. After a local woman was allegedly raped, however, a petition has been signed by 1,500 people, while Gemma O'Doherty and John McGuirk's Gript Media have jumped on the bandwagon:
