                Is it true that due to legal fees, it's more expensive to execute someone than let them die in jail?

                  It obviously depends on how long "life" ends up being, but yes, the state will generally spend more on everything involved with the execution than they would on incarcerating the prisoner for 40 years or more.

                        It shouldn't be a factor but there's a public misconception that the abolition of the death penalty in the UK led to huge new expense of keeping murderers locked up.
