    The Seventh Extinction (Automotive News)

A list of cars about to go extinct on UK roads, according to the good folks at Jalopnik.

One of those Saab 90s is around the corner from my house.

Presumably there will be some which are not on the road but not scrapped either?

I always found it bizarre that GM/Chevrolet did not come up with a new name for that model in the UK

So did my Dad. A yellow estate no less. We used to call it the Shove-it.

What would enhance this list is the production volumes/periods together with the cars that are now extinct. My impression is that Chevettes were pretty common.

Still a few Marinas about, it seems.

But what about Itals? Or Ambassadors?

Add me to the list of Chevette owners: had a light-blue one, cost me 80 quid and did a couple of trips to St Andrews and back, as well as a legendary (well, it was at the time) circuit of the M25 to watch Hayes win at Grays on a Tuesday night. I really liked that car, and with hindsight it was the ideal starter car: it was cheap, easily to repair by picking up bits from the many other Chevettes to be found at local scrapyards, and it wasn't powerful or fast enough to do much damage when driven recklessly by the 18-year-old idiot behind the wheel...

That sounds very much like my mate's white Chevette four door when I was about 18. Got us all to North Wales and back for a camping trip and was regularly... let's just say "over-driven".
