    Meanwhile, at Boeing

Airplane (sic) manufacturer admit their aircraft were death traps.

Time to ground the entire Boeing fleet of every airline, surely, CAA?

Don't you just yearn for the days of yore when it was Lockheed, McDonnell-Douglas, BAC, and Ilyushin who built the deathliners?

The L-1011 was a reliable piece of kit. Or should I say is, because some of them are still flying.

But Douglas rushed the DC-10 to market, which helped them outsell Lockheed. That rush might have to do with why the DC-10 crashed more often.

Wasn't the DC 10 the one where the cargo bay kept blowing out and the TriStar where the engines dropped off?

Both because of shoddy construction practices.

Well, this thread makes me feel happier to have got home.

First time on a 777. It really wasn't a pleasant experience, especially compared to the A380 and A350 which made up the other three flights. 18 month old plane, the air blower wouldn't switch off, the USB connectors didn't work (not good when you have a 14 hour flight and available wi-fi) and it was way, way too hot at times.

I can't wait for Brexit, when the British Empire can once again produce the modern equivalent of the Comet. Then we can show the world what shit aircraft design is all about!

              Nowt wrong with the design.

It was the manufacture, and the decision not to listen to metallurgists and design engineers that you'll get metal fatigue along the corners of square windows.

It's not as if this wasn't already known

It was the first jet plane, mistakes were made. Boeing learned from them.

UK plane industry subsequently went under because the Tory boys in charge of BA demanded dumb planes that nobody wanted. Like Concordes and the VC-10s. Meanwhile Boeing was building the 727, 737 and 747.
