Portugal ya beauty. But then I remember the not distant past where Spain had no far right party with a following (bar the fuckin PP) and, yeah. I'd expect a Bannon/Pewdie Pie/McInnes/Lobster Boy funded bunch of cunts in Ireland and Scotland to gain some kind of representation at council or European level, even the Big Seats, soon enuf. Farage will obvs manange this for Eng/Wales Shitlandia.

All of their tweets assume knowledge of parties in the relevant country and/or the current European Parliament groupings.

Or, alternatively, a willingness to look such information up.

Left: Ex-Communists, Democratic Socialists, some nationalists (Bildu, SF)
EPP: Christian Democrats, most conservative parties
          ALDE: Liberals
          ENF: Fascist Eurosceptics
          EFDD: Plain Eurosceptics
ECR: Eurocritical, but don't favour exit (apart from Tories).

Neither of which applies to me.

Those are some of the most Irish people I've ever seen.

Does the Republic of Ireland vote via ballot papers or electronically and, whatever the answer is, do the candidates photographs appear too?

Purely paper ballots, no postal voting, and yes, the printed sheet will appear as it does in the link - not sure whether the proposal and replacement list lines are drawn included, but the rest will be.

Thanks. That's really interesting. Is the Republic unique in publishing mugshots, do we know?

Le Pen, as expected, joins forces with Lega, the AfD, the Freedom Party, and the Danish People's Party.

As regular Moral Maze listeners will be unsurprised to learn, Claire Fox is running for the Brexit Party.

I didn't know who she was, so I had to go for the old Google. There seem to be two types of photographs of Claire Fox on the internet. There are photographs that she has had taken where she's posing with booze and fags, and there are photographs that other people have taken of her, and she looks like she slept in the hallway outside her flat, having failed to get the key in the inside door. it seems very on brand for Ukip tbh.

I was in the north of Ireland over the weekend, and I noticed a number of UKIP placards along roads around Ballymena and further north. Presumably they're having a go for the council elections, but what sort of vote will they get? And will they eat into the DUP's numbers?

Just found out I went to school with one of their greasy contrarians, though he doesn't seem to get on the Moral Maze/Sky news review etc much anymore, but then he does make Fox and O'Neill seem well turned out and sympathetic of tone. The hideous fucker made his name in Uni setting up a pro vivisection society. It must be an effort to be so rigorously contrary.

They've had candidates in NI for around a decade now - a few county councillors, but never managed to elect anyone in Stormont. In truth, unionists of that ilk are largely content with the DUP, and hardliners tend to vote for Jim Allister's TUV.

UKIP are to the DUP what that nottingham guy (that Al keeps posting about,) who had plastic surgery to look like David Beckham, is to David Beckham.

Ta. I've been a fairly regular visitor to NI over the past 15 years, just never seen any visible UKIPpery until now.

TInGe, Brexit and UKIP only have one policy, and they are putting up MEP candidates who will have no role in making that policy come about. What's the fucking point of any of them?

Well, if the UK doesn't leave the EU or the departure point is pushed well into the future then the MEPs will have a role to play, of course. But the main point is the campaign itself and how the party leaflets, PPBs, public meetings, media exposure and so on shape the public debate and influence the views and Brexit-voting intentions of MPs.
