If only the UN were to say: "Sure, we'll act. Once you've given us satisfaction on the countless resolutions we've passed against your conduct in territories that aren't yours."

Iran is quite close to israel, in the same way that Galway is quite close to Rome. I'm kind of impressed that these drones can fly that far.

The reports from Iran said they'd fired them and they take 12 minutes to reach Israel, that's not happened.

Yeah. I saw a couple of reports that made me wonder that, too. Fly a bunch of cheap slow moving drones across airspace the US can fly fighter jets in, have the US know days in advance it's going to happen. They can get shot down, Iran looks like it's responded to Netanyahu's shithousery, the US looks like it's "protecting" Israel. It would make sense as a de-escalation.

But I'd wait until later to know if that's actually true. If Iran was launching ballistic missiles, they'd wait until the cheap drones were in Israeli airspace - the large number of drones would be designed to be overwhelming or confusing to Israeli iron-dome style air defences which could create an opportunity for missiles to get through.

    I hope it's the former.

It's really looking like this is gave saving attack by Iran.

If Biden reins in Netanyahu then this can be descalated. That's the big if.

Iran had already informed the US.

I sincerely hope you are right. Similar to the attacks on the US bases after the assassination of Qasem Soleimani.

However Netanyahu is less likely to play ball.

If it's just drones then there's a chance to desculate, if it's ballistic missiles then Israel and others will retaliate.

AJ saying the same, and some seem to have been shot down on their way. However there are missiles too.

    All believed to be synchronised.

I don't think the Nazi thing is helpful either. While there are always similarities between one genocide and another, there will also be specific differences. Those difference will then be used by bad faith actors to play down the severity of what's happened (as we have seen extensively in this conflict).

It also means people focus on the perpetrators, and if there is a focus on victims it's purely a numbers game. A genocide knockout - Armenia v the Kulaks in the quarter final! * In a sense I don't really care how this compares to Rwanda or Cambodia, I just want it to stop, and some kind of process put in place to stop it from happening again. A bonus if people end up in the Hague, but given how unlikely that is, I'd settle for Israel holding pariah state status for the forseable future, which seems rather more likely among the general population of most western countries than their political leaders. A bit like Apartheid South Africa.

Argh now I'm making comparisons. I guess it's unavoidable.

    * I must add, I don't think anyone's doing that here, but I do see people straying into that territory elsewhere, and I've no doubt it's unintentional.
