Not sure if this is the general UK print media thread, but this is really eye opening. Only 15% of the people of the UK trust the press. (That;s actually quite heartening in fact)

Whether it's "heartening" or not does rather depend on what alternative sources the disbelievers are going to rely on in forming their understanding of what's happening around the world. I fear in too many cases the preferred sources will turn out to be loony conspiracist crap circulating in their social media like-minded bubbles.

I'd like to see a lot more detail from the study, if there is any. Apart from anything else, is "trust" being confused with shared values or opinions. And are people doubting the information in "straight" news reporting (crime, natural disasters and so on), in domestic political pieces or when they read that a soap actor is commenting on reports that they have a cocaine addiction or denying an affair.

It does say "written press". So, not TV. But does it include internet? Sorry if it's included in the Tweet (I still don't understand how Twitter works), but what was the actual question asked? I know a fair few who think everything on the internet is fake news, but will parrot everything their paper tells them.
Edit: Blimey, Ad hoc answered my question before I'd even asked it!

The UK fieldwork was done in November 2019 (and with quite a small sample size, I'd say) when the political atmosphere in the country was quite febrile, so I'm inclined to think that people on either side of the Brexit debate were just generally disagreeing with whatever the other side and their media sympathisers said. After all, the survey was "requested and coordinated by the European Commission."
