It was rubbish really wasn't it? JM allowed to spout long winded management bullshit answers in what amounted to a 2 and a half hour monologue where he appeared to answer every question, without actually saying anything. By the time he answered a question, the relevant MP seemed to have forgotten what their question actually was, hence the piss poor follow up questions.

This describes 95% of parliamentary committee hearings. I watched/went to a lot of hearings on the financial crisis, and if anything they were even more embarrassing.

Indeed. The issue is that some people were expecting Crown Court, I think. It could have been much more effective but it is the start of a long process even if it doesn't end up getting kicked into the long grass
