    Murdoch scum

Anyone seeing the blustering bollocks of Nick Boles on Newsnight?

Slumber party! Labour are just as bad as us!

    That won't wash, Nick.

Your loyalty won't do you any good either because lots of your party think Cameron's shit.

It doesn't seem impossible for them to have some emails. Whether these emails contain anything pertinent is another matter. As would be the furtherance of an investigation into criminal hacking by means of criminal hacking...

No problem with your last point. Brooks would hold her hands up rather than get off on a technicality.

So, who puts the knife into Cameron? Clegg/Lib Dems, as the minority coalition party, would be the sensible candidate in any reasonably functioning parliamentary democracy, but I don't see them having the guts to do it.

In many ways this ought to be the Lib Dems chance, though. They are not compromised by past associations with Murdoch in the way that Miliband et al are. Not through any higher level of rectitude on their part, obviously, but because they were beneath Murdoch's contempt. Still, whatever the reason, they are in the unusual position of being a part of the British establishment that is 'clean', and they also currently have access to the levers of power.

The Tories would have to elect Nadine Dorries as leader for Clegg to break ranks.

                  David Davis?

                      Not a bad call.

It's very clear the Lib Dems wouldn't want to force a general election at the moment. The coalition will stand, maybe with a new figurehead, unless the Tories want it otherwise. And I doubt they will feel that confident about going to the public at the moment (has the gerrymandering happened yet?).

With Clarke's buisness links? He's going to have a NI skeleton or two in his closet, so probably not he. Actually, NI links is going to be the problem for anyone with time served on the Tory front bench. They surely have all been courting at some point, even if simply out of fear off being seen not to have done so.

It comes back to the Lib Dems, then. Possibly a dual putsch that brings Clegg down from within and then tells Cameron he cannot stay. Simon Hughes it is.

I have a copy of the design doc for NI's mail system due some work I was doing for them last year.

Would be easy getting archived mails.

Nick Boles working his hide off for a junior ministerial position on Newsnight. I'm not sure his aggressive tone will make the PM feel more secure in his job tonight..

The Cabinet's a bit thin admittedly but there are a few who can debate- Hague is the most obvious.

The other one they've sent out is Michael Fallon. He at least can keep calm, and has been around a bit.

Haven't heard much from Stephen Dorrell. He was the last Tory to do anything Murdoch didn't like, publishing a white paper in favour of strong regulation of broadcasting when the party needed Murdoch's support. Loveable Michael Hestletine and others attacked it in Cabinet, and it got watered down. But his successor, Virginia Bottomley (apparently not keen on Murdoch either) managed to keep a regulation stopping Murdoch from buying a terrestrial station.
