Who are these people and why should I hate them?

(I already made up my mind that I don't like them, I just need some reasons.)

they are a secretive bunch of neo-conservatives who always tell lies. The head of the organisation Declan Ganley was up to his bollocks in the attempts to profit from the privatisation of everything that wasn't nailed down in Iraq. He was the one that tried to force the iraqi's not to use GSM mobile technology but to instead use the American system, even though everyone else in the middle east uses GSM.

Everything they say is a lie. They keep banging on about our corporation tax being under threat, even though everyone knows that we have a veto on that. then they say they never said that, but then say that the French are going to use the EU laws to circumvent this veto in a manner that is patently bollocks but they keep shouting it loudly like Karl rove is telling them what to say.

They claim to have legal advice that tells them that this is the case, but refuse to allow anyone to see it. They also claim that Ireland are giving up 60 vetos in this treaty, but refuse to show anyone their list.

A lot of this might be down to their head of communications John McGuirk, someone I know since college. His problem is that he is an inveterate liar. (don't worry about the board getting sued. this is a matter of public record, in that the phoenix printed a hilarious profile of him and how he got thrown out of a debating society, young fianna fail, and young fine gael for writing anonymous emails making slanderous allegations about people.) he wouldn't know the truth if it came up and bit him on the pendulous folds of fat that hang down in front of his balls.

For instance on sunday he said that Michael McDowell was going to call a press conference coming out against the Lisbon treaty but that it got cancelled at the last minute. He also claimed that Michael Dell was going to give them a million dollars, but that his company were preventing him from doing it.

Not only is everything they say an outright lie, or a massive distortion of the truth, but also everything behind the treaty is a massive conspiracy, there is a report being supressed here, or a bill is awaiting approval in the French parliament. France is a big bugbear for them.

basically they are at the forefront of the invasion of Ireland by Rovian neoconservatism, they're following on the coattails of Geraldine kennedy's introduction of charles krauthammer and mark Steyn in the irish times, the further lurch to the right of the Irish independent to counter the entrance of the Daily mail, and George hook peddling neo-conservatism through the medium of rugby anecdotes.

They were interviewing John Bolton on RTE news the other day for christs sake. John fucking bolton.

Remarkably, all of the above is 100% true.

      Ireland: Stranger than AIATL's ramblings.

Enough reasons there! So Michael Dell isn't against the treaty? I had been convinced he was. Fucking wurlitzer.

Looks like the No camp in Ireland is similar to the No camp in Holland during the constitution referendum, a collection of outright nationalists and neo-cons, old-school Stalin "socialists", violent groupings, etc.

The tactics are also exactly the same as they were in Holland. 1.) Tell as many lies as possible (loss of sovereignty etc.) 2.) Say that the document is too complicated. 3.) Portray supporters as part of a political elite. 4.) Use the word "Brussels" as often as possible and 5.) Tell as many lies as possible.

        It worked in Holland.

The Lisbon Treaty campaign is making strange bedfellows of people and groups. Conservatives and free-market business types share the No side with leftist groups. And we have FF & FG sharing the Yes platform.

It's an intriguing debate and not one where people decide which camp they are in. It's about interpretation and predicting the consequences. So we have the leading workers unions in the Yes camp claiming that certain workers rights are copperfastened in the Treaty, whilst the socialist politicians in the No camp claim that this leads to the opposite. It's not a simple like-it-or-don't-like-it debate. It's very much a case of whose opinion you trust.

Polls last week suggested that the No side may prevail, yet current betting has Yes as the strong 1/3 favourite.

In the absence of any more sensible argument, this has convinced me to vote Yes.

AIATL's the one on the left then?

I conducted a brief straw poll on the Belfast- Dublin train. Couldn't find a single voter committing to yes, although there were a few nos.
