Their local losing candidate in the last election was then "elected" director of our hospice. She immediately issued a directive that no more MAIDs would carried out. This caused an irrevocable split between the board, and it's medical staff. The directive was almost certainly illegal and led to the running of the hospice being taken over the regional health service. Not a party you'd want to see running a jumble sale, never mind a government.

Hmm. Trudeau is certainly getting punished for calling this election, and both opposition parties are reaping the rewards. But there's a fair way to go and things seem very fluid. The anti-vax demos outside hospitals last week have generated enormous outrage here in BC. That is likely to spill over onto the Tories, though they aren't supporting the position. Their promised review of gun ownership though has presented the Liberals with a massive open goal which has already been seized on. It all might look very different next week.

Latest CBC poll shows Liberals gaining a little on the Conservatives, and still leading in probable number of seats. The fact that Young Justin continues to be stalked wherever he goes by a rowdy bunch of "anti-mask, anti-vaccine and anti-Liberal protesters" might begin working in his favour. Yesterday they threw gravel at him, which gained him a fair amount of sympathy (makes you wonder if wasn't done by a Liberal plant) and drew across the board condemnation from all the other parties.

Yeah, the plant thing crossed my mind for a minute. But we hit a fair number of small towns outside of Toronto - like....just outside of Toronto - and there are tons of "Stop The Lockdown" and similar signs on rural properties. The wingnut fringe is certainly vocal and angry about everything.

Yeah, same here in BC. And, naturally, that's where the vast majority of the recent Covid cases are coming from. Mind you there were over 5,000 anti-vaxxers harassing hospital emergency departments here in the lower mainland last week. Fucking madness.

Interesting argument here, claiming that while the Prairie Provinces are seen as Tory locks, both the urban vote and the First Nation electorate could swing some seats back to both the Liberals and the NDP.

Yeah, but it certainly doesn't feel like it. This is the most yawn inducing national election in living memory. No one's talking it about anywhere except in the MSM, and you get the impression they're only doing so 'cos they're paid to. The lawn-signs around here can, literally, be counted on the fingers of one hand. The English TV "debate" was a total shit show, largely because of its format. Most people I asked turned it off half-way through. Even the all-candidates meetings — town-halls or radio — have been non-events. In great part because the Conservatives have obviously told their candidates not to attend, in case they say something stupid or offensive — which has certainly happened enough times in the past.
I'm betting on a reduced Liberal minority, but it might be a few days before we know for sure because there was a lot of early voting.

Why did the Bloc suddenly start surging in the polls after Legault endorsed the Tories - simply a case of if Quebec wanted to hold the balance of power that they might as well go the whole hog, and maximise the vote of their own party?

I really don't know. On the one hand you expect the PQ to support the Bloc. On the other hand beating the Liberals is a bigger cause for both parties, so in Anglo ridings it gives Francophones someone to vote for who might win.

Practically nothing has changed. Another Liberal government with a current projection of one or two more seats than they had at dissolution. On the plus side Peoples Party leader Michel Bernier has lost in his own riding by a massive 12,000+ votes.

Might the Tories embrace electoral reform?
