FAO Richard Dawkins, The Pope or Rowan Williams

Get your finger out and say something controversial or stupid, will you?

The Football lot are kicking our World arses with the ridiculous "Claude Makelele" thread and I don't think have had a proper thread Holy War on the new board yet.

As much as anything, I would love to see Super Sharp Shooter flushed out of the woodwork.

By the way, Dawkins' impending appearance on Dr Who doesn't count but he deserves credit for the effort

The Pakistani one with the sideburns was saying horrid things about Islam again. Will that do?

Rowan Williams is Pakistani? I thought he was Welsh. Mind you, the accents are very similar.

Ireland has a new political hero if that helps...

Interesting piece in that well-known purveyor of quackery, New Scientist, on the evolutionary origins of religion.

The Pope has spoken out in support of the neo fascist mayor of Rome, if anyone considers that controversial.

If I may quote the missus.

In a speech to Italian bishops yesterday, the Pope expressed his "joy at the new political climate". Ratzinger said that the country "is emerging from a long period of crisis" and that he is "comforted" by the way that certain shared values are spreading among the population. I can't quite find a way of reading this which is other than profoundly worrying.

You presumably think those of who disagreed with your claims in this area will be sceptical about these findings? That suggests we weren't clear enough about what we found wanting in your account.

Here we go, this is starting to warm up.

If I may quote the missus.
Liquidator, is this how you and your beloved indulge in small-talk. I am moving in much higher brow circles thgan I thought.

I was just having a chat with the missus about 'Britain's Got Talent'. I said that if Cowell gave that much of a toss about the talent of this country, he'd set up workshops, grants and funding at a basic level, rather than a once a year freak show to line his pockets.

The missus told me to fuck off and talk to my geek mates on the internet as I clearly preferred it to talking to her.

                  Fair points all round.

Do you ever have any nice conversations, or nice days out, or nice meals together, or...well, does anything nice ever happen with you two?

Yeah. But I don't post that up.

So is it harder to be funny about nice stuff?

                          Totally. And it's less interesting.

EIM talking about nice stuff would be like a younger, brasher Alan Bennett.
