Prince Charles's car runs on wine and cheese. Because of course it does.

There's a reason why an area about the size of northern ireland has 2,000 residents and not 10,000 times as many

Isn't that really a Scottish thing? Indeed, I'm told that fried chicken was invented by Scotch-Irish immigrants to Georgia.

On the basis that deep fried breaded anything tastes good, I'm pretty sure I'd like the chicken fried eggs. I'm also pretty sure that I'd hate myself afterwards if I ever ate one.

I'd be pretty sceptical about that. The Scottish attachment to deep frying and lovely lovely batter is probably a 19th century reaction to rapid industrialisation and urbanisation, when rural folks left/were forcibly removed from the countryside and ended up in overcrowded conditions often with extremely minimal cooking facilities.

Very quickly the family cooking traditions from the Highlands/Ireland/lowlands or wherever (and most of Scotland's history is one of being on the verge of famine, so it's doubtful most country folk had regular access to meat at all) would have been forgotten in favour of tinned food, factory fired plain loaves and the chippy. Stuff that would fill your belly for little money and see you through hellish drudge work.

Takeaway fish and chips was a fairly cheap and nutritious way to stay alive, but you won't find Scottish cooking associated with an excessive love of batter till the mid Victorian period at least.

At least the "paper" managed to unite NI in bafflement at this headline:

Wiki says Scottish immigrants brought deep-frying to the US because fritters we’re not uncommon in the Middle Ages. But breading the chicken with spices came from Africa.

A Leeds bakery having some difficulties comes out swinging. The WTF here is that a customer was seemingly able to identify that their sprinkles were illegal American ones. I mean, they're sprinkles and they look like sprinkles.

Another WTF for me is that that Leeds bakery has access to illegal sprinkles. If the sprinkles are illegal under UK food law, how the hell do they get imported. Do couriers being them in in swallowed condoms?

What those blockchain-promoting rabbits need is a stoat or two in their vicinity. I'd personally breed them for the purpose.

I would think that one could order a pound or two on line without a huge chance that the package would be inspected

I remember reading about the differences between EU food law, with absolute bans on unsavoury food contaminants, compared with US food law, which allows, I don't know, rat's droppings, squashed flies etc. as long as they're below some small percentage of the product by weight. I think the key question here on these cake toppings is: how much crap does US food regulation allow per hundred and thousand?

                                            Two questions

What are these ignorant arsehole wankers kvetching about?

They should consider themselves lucky they weren't fined for using food colourings which have been banned for concerns over hyperactivity in children and cancer risks

They bought them from a wholesaler

How were they allowed to import the things in the first place?

Food standard safety inspectors need to go through their warehouses with a fine-tooth comb, and if necessary get them closed down
