We used to have a doorman (bouncer) who decided he wanted to be a waiter. He went through all the training and did his best, but after a couple of months it just wasn't working out. He was a terrible waiter. So we told him so, and let him down easy, and even offered him his old job back.

An hour later, he showed up with his father (an old, first-generation Italian guy), who went to great lengths to tell me what a nice boy he is and how heartbroken the boy is and he'll try harder, etc etc. It was awful.

Arizona tries to make education a G-rated experience.

In what has to be the most hilariously unconstitutional piece of legislation that I've seen in quite some time, senators in the Arizona state legislature have introduced a bill that would require all educational institutions in the state -- including state universities -- to suspend or fire professors who say or do things that aren't allowed on network TV.

And not really WTF territory, but mildly irritating: the number of people I hear saying "Two oh-three" and "Two oh-nine" etc for the years 2001 - 2010. Fine, 'two thousand and six' is a mouthful, but it's a cross we all bear. Jeebus!
