Some clown on the Daily Politics just now has just opined that it's an irony that Tony Benn should invent something because it makes him a capitalist. Perhaps he wasnt't to know that Benn's pledged any profit he makes to Age UK, but there's something very bizarre about this attitude, also in evidence in the comments to this story.
It's the close relative of the "X says he's socialist but he has earned a lot of money" thing. I can almost see that- if you believe in paying higher taxes on your earnings, there's a case for donating the excess you get under New Labour rates, maybe. Or take an average wage, like some union leaders and MPs do.
But an inventor being necessarily capitalist, what on earth is that about?
