    Legal type advice needed

    My girlfriend has decided to move in with me. We're very happy with that and I hope that our relationship continues to grow.

    I own the apartment and will continue to pay the mortgage fully. I won't be charging her rent but she will pay the occasional bill on an ad hoc basis.

    My question is what happens if we ever were to decide to break up?

    It depends on whether you put her on the deeds to the property or not. Full responsibility for the mortgage would remain with you even if you did so, unless you rearranged it so that her name was on it (and even if you did, you would have to put her on the deeds for her to own half of it). If you want it to be yours if anything happens to you, I'd suggest amending your will, if you have one.

                        Ah, ok. In England, substantial indirect payments to the mortgage, such as by the paying of bills, are capable of creating an equitable interest in the property, by way of a resulting trust.

                        No idea about Ireland.
