    Obvious computer question

(At least I'm sure it's obvious to most people, just not me)

How do I find out whether my processor is 32 or 64 bit? I am being asked that question for a download, and I can't for the life of me work out what the answer is.

It's an Intel Core 2 duo T5300 if that helps.

Thanks. I had (obviously) tried google, but it hadn't been that helpful, just finding loads of forum posts in which people ask such riveting questions as "Should I go with the T5300 or the T5250?" (I'd even compared the number of hits from Intel Core 2 duo T5300 32 bit and Intel Core 2 duo T5300 64 bit, but the results were too close to call.)

        Are you running Windows?

If so, try Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Processor.

Which may or not tell you.

Actually it doesn't, but what it does tell me is that I'm running a 32 bit OS on (if stumpy's wiki link is to be believed) a 64 bit processor. Which means I'm back to square one.

If that's the case, you are probably better off downloading the 32 bit version.

              Try start menu > run > msinfo32

should display processor details under system summary.

If your operating system is 32-bit then you need to download the 32-bit version of the software.
