    Fiona Phillips supports Labour: official

Is this the most cringeworthy moment at a party conference since Neil Kinnock's "ALRIIIGHT! ALRIIIGHT!" in Sheffield?*

Really bizarre speech from moustachioed former GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips, introducing Home Secretary Alan Johnson.

Evidently ill-prepared (if prepared at all), she flirts with Johnson and Jack Straw, makes a baffling reference to Super Furry Animals, and... well, I can't do it justice. Just watch.

(*Yes, I know that wasn't a conference as such.)

Dear sweet little baby jesus and all the saints. I'm a minute in and I can't watch any more.

I was at Sheffield. I think this is worse.

Although the Neil Kinnock whooping was preceeded by a Simply Red singalong with Mick Hucknall. At least that didn't get on the Nine O'Clock News.

I wanna bump this, because I don't feel it's getting the attention it deserves.

Maybe you've all watched it and it's sent you mute with horror.

Pretty much so. It's astonishingly cringeworthy. Who is that woman?

She's a television presenter, who for many years was one of the anchors of GMTV (lowbrow breakfast news'n'gossip show on ITV).

                    Jesus. Dare I watch anymore?

She was bad enough on GMTV.

                      That really is terrible.

I feel sorry for the dignitaries who have to sit in front of everyone on the dais and applaud when applause is needed. Though Jack Straw seemed to enjoy Alan's discomfort.

She was on Question Time a few weeks ago and contributed a few sparkling gems of insight to the discussion. Including something along the lines that there must be something wrong with MMR because one of her friends children got sick afterwards...

If a BBC employee did that they'd get slaughtered.

Mind, what a hideous 'i'm-leaving-the-hall-right-now-and-downing-a-pint-instantly' moment it must have been to witness live.

I am now genuinely and actually nauseated.

A Top Tip in Viz once suggested that pensioners looking to keep warm in winter and economize on heating bills should think back to Neil Kinnock's outburst at Sheffield- the memory is enough to make anyone glow red hot with embarrassment.

Haven't watched this with sound on yet, but it looks like another energy-saver.

Is it good to describe someone as 'chummy'?

She likes the phrase "as well all know".

Alan Johnson (whoever he is) bares a resemblance to David Bowie.
