That's an interesting looking circular biscuit in the picture. What sort is that?

Erm, guys, I wasn't entirely serious.
I tell you what though, I really fancy a cup of tea and a delicious new Rocky milk chocolate bar, available at all good supermarkets now

By the way, I remember a series of readers' letters in New Scientist, where someone asked why some biscuits went hard when left out and some went soft. The exchange of views went on for some time, but eventually it was stated that whether a biscuit went hard or soft was down to their relative salt or sugar content. (Annoyingly, I can't remember which way round it is - which makes them go soft and which makes them go hard.) I seem to remember that, in discussing that phenomenon, it was established whether Jaffa Cakes qualify as a cake or a biscuit. Even more annoyingly, I can't remember what the result there was, either!
Perhaps if I have a drink it'll help me remember?
Ah yes. This is sure to help.
Oh look - a squirrel!

There you go... I knew that either GY or WE would know the answer!
Do you mind if we refer collectively to you as 'WEGY' in future? You do almost represent the OTF 'hive mind' when it comes to academia, after all.

It's a good rule for the VAT thing. I can't think of a cake that would get softer with age but if you bake biscuits like cookies that are deliberately squidgy in the middle they will harden. If they live that long.
Damn it now I'm in danger of making biscuits. I really don't need to be making biscuits.

Yeah, Rocky Robin - "They're chockablock, man."
They were great, Rocky bars, an all. They released a caramel version which wasn't so good. As often with biscuits, simplicity is key.
The Rocky was a staple in my school lunchbox. That, a taxi or a Gold bar. Now Gold bars. They were special.

Reece's Pieces.
The picture reminds me of something else from my childhood: crunchy, sweet shell, with somesort of nutty filling... something like that. They came in big jars, and you had to buy by weight.

Those Reese's Pieces are grotesque. I like peanut butter and I like chocolate, but somehow they manage to ruin both. And they stick to your teeth and make your fillings ache like they do when you're working in a high voltage transformer room.
