There's a minor controversy in the States over whether the government should charge for access to electronic court records, known as Pacer. How I wish we could have that controversy. I've just spent the entire fucking morning traipsing around the Royal Courts of Justice, spent £10 on search fees, and still have nothing to show for it because the claim I was looking for isn't public yet. If the UK had an equivalent of Pacer I could have found that out in one minute for the princely sum of 8 cents.
