France v Belgium; Asterix v Tintin

I had both. I preferred Asterix but some of the Tintin stories were very good.

I have no idea who will win the semi final. They both seem like incredibly good teams who also concede goals which might mean it's a 0-0 penalty shoot out.

I think I'm going to root for Belgium. Just because Kevin de Bruyne scored the funniest goal I saw last season.

Whether it is or not, I'm hoping Snowy saying 'woah!' makes it into the next BDG cartoon.

Whilst he's at it, it would be nice if Obelix could stamp on some fucking Smurfs as well.

Are we having a countdown who's going to be the first mention that Tintin was racist?

I mean, it's the new thing now, to hunt racists everywhere, so it would be strange if that doesn't come up in a blink.

                              A Belgian Bun, I imagine.

Yep, French bun vs Belgian bun there.

                                Petanque vs Rolle bolle:

Never heard of such a thing. But i am glad to note that it looks more bunlike than most things called bun

I kind of want a Papillon and a Griffon Bruxellois now.

Both, I mean. Not crossbred like this Papigriffon.

                                        That dog is amazing.

Are Mrs Thistle and I the only couple to call Belgian buns "Buns Belgique!!" (You have to exclaim it.)

Hoegaarden v Kronenburg, no contest and a huge Belgian win. That's before we even get on to their framboise beers.

Tintin himself is fairly neutral in how he treats people. But the way African people are depicted in the first book (Tintin in the Congo) is very unsettling to read now.

The cycling one took me a while longeared - there weren't many French or Belgians in the Saxo team. But I think we are looking at Nick Nuyens beating Sylvain Chavanel in the 95th Ronde van Vlaanderen, April 2011?

Tintin au Congo was the second volume, following Tintin au pays des Soviets.
