    Yugoslavia 2018

If Yugoslavia still existed, I'd fancy their team to win the World Cup. The defence looks slightly shaky, but no more so than, say, Belgium's or England's. But what riches in midfield, with decent strikers. Apart from Perisic, Modric, Matic and Rakitic, there'd be players like Perisic, Pjanic and Tadic. Going for a superannuated 4-4-2, a Yugoslavia 2018 side could look like this:

    Begovic (or Subasic)

    Kolarov, Vida, Nastasic, Ivanisevic

    Modric, Rakitic, Matic, Milinkovic-Savic

    Mitrovic, Dzeko (Mandzukic)

That's an old team. I think they'd get taken apart quite easily by a team with pace.

A (former) Brit Empire outfit could be useful at the cricket

They'd have no-one to play against.

Technically, South Africa was only a colony for eight years.

Would it not just run into the old dilemma that the different nationalities could never blend into a unified whole. They always had the benefit of the best of the separate state concepts but it was never enough before 1992. Why would it be different now?
