Japan really seem to believe in giving their opponents some personal space, don't they.

Japan doing a good job of stopping Belgium playing out from the back

Two duff balls in succession from Carasco.

        I'm off out now.

          How did Lukaku miss that?

          Ah, a shove.

What this game needs is a goal from Japan so we can see Belgium attack like this 90 min

Well, I'm only one of them, but I'll be happy as Larry. They play lovely football, which I'd love to see rewarded.

They first have to find their way past Japan, and then Brazil, so let's not celebrate just yet.

Superhuman effort from Kompany and not one of his colleagues anticipated it.

                Hope, albeit distant, for Japan.

I have a Dutch colleague who would also be happy, so there's at least two.

                    Very good point there.

It must be an all time record.

                    Did Russia qualify in 2002?

If Lukaku gets an open shot, I don't know if he has the energy to even put in the effort to lift a foot to take the shot.

Judging by the first 29 minutes, each shoe must be made of material denser than black holes. The mafia must've given him concrete shoes. Someone must've crazy glued his feet to the ground. He's not as much stuck in the mud as planted in pavement.

Yes, and were in a group where this very fixture occurred.

                            Yes they did

If we are counting maritime borders, the US would have beaten them had they qualified

I guess this match we are watching would be the record then. In 2002 the Russians could have sent fans from Vladivostok.

Russia were in the 1994 World Cup (their first as Russia)

Yeah that was with that mad match where the Russian (Olenko?) got four goals. Weren't they competing as CIS then?

I guess in theory France could have been followed by fans from New Caledonia in Germany 2006

Salenko got five in a 6-1 win over Cameroon. They were Russia by then. Euro 92 was the only tournament for CIS (they were still USSR for qualification)

RTE's Ger Canning must have the world's most annoying voice. Straight out of Montenotte. These lads never seem to have to retire.
