Graham Hill of course drove the Embassy-liveried version of the same car, but it just wasn't the same, I feel:

Do you know, I think that all the F1 cars from about 1970 look tediously similar. I can't be bothered to work out what's a Matra and what's a Brawn...

Really? I'm almost the reverse. The wings and things help me differentiate somewhat, whereas I have trouble identifying all the torpedo-shaped cars of the 60s.

I'm with you on this one, although I can understand GO's point of view as well. Of course, the reason for this is because of the shattering Lotus 72, which completely revolutionised F1 car design until 1978, when Lotus 79 ripped up the rule book once again and everyone copied that instead.

This much said, I think each car from the 1970s had enough of its own character to stand out from its competition, which is something Formula 1 has been missing until the 2009 rule changes mixed things up a little.

My favourites of the era, the ones I always think of aside from Lotus 72, are McLaren's M23 (here in 1974 airbox configuration; Brabham's Lobster Claw BT34 and Ligier JS5 - with the quickly-banned 'teapot' airbox.

The Ferrari P4 above was unsold at a high bid of 7 and a quarter million Euro so if anyone was thinking of buying it there's still a chance.

You're out of luck if you wanted this 250TR though, it sold for over 9 million.
