Well er yeah - Wales were great. Sevens is a massive spectator sport in Dubai - testament probbly to the attention span of the majority of the tax-dodging arrogant overpaid ex-pats out here. The quarter finals were excellent - all four favourites went out and the hush that descended as South Africa got done by Argentina was truly tremendous. England were favourites for the mens and womens competitions, but both went out in the quarters.
The event was important as the IOC were invited to assess the suitability of sevens becoming an Olympic sport in 2016. It has a fair chance, given that it's played around the world, is over in 20 minutes, is played by both genders and the Septics quite like it. We'll know in October, but the soundings were good. Interesting to see how the players react to it being an Olympic sport and whether world-class players will actually cross over for a chance of a medal.
