    Laura Davies, CBE

I see Laura has just won the Australian Open golf championship, at the age of 46. I'll confess I didn't know she was still even playing competitively, but to see her still winning major international events is quite something. It's a seemingly impossible 22 years since she, almost as if drawing inspiration from the European male golfers who were taking over the world game at the time, followed suit in the women's game, winning the 1987 US Women's Open, and following that up shortly after with a couple of LPGA titles. And to put the longevity of her golfing career into context, she won her first major in the same year as Nick Faldo won his first.

Possibly one of the longest careers any British sportsperson has enjoyed, competing at the highest level?

She's almost old enough to be Rory 'Holywood blockbuster' McIlroy's granny. Good on yer, girl. I like it when 46 year olds win professional sports.
