Okay, first off, Chavez-Meldrick Taylor 1992. Taylor the winner of every round coming into the 10th. Then late in the 12th . . .

October 16 1909, just over 99 years ago. Jack Johnson is fighting a middleweight, Stan Ketchel, in one of the many absurd mismatches that made up far too much of his career. Then little Ketchel, whom Johnson had agreed to carry for the sake of the cameras, dumps Johnson on his backside. 30 seconds later . . .

George Foreman v Ron Lyle, 1976. Foreman, once considered invincible, Lyle a journeyman but a powerful slugger. A slugfest indeed. Watch from part two on.

    That Foreman one was great.
Lyle seemed to had put on a fiar bit of weight after losing to Ali a year earlier.

As for Chavez, his son is a proffessional boxer and a decent one too by all accounts.

What did you think of the Hatton fight?

I didn't see it, unfortunately. Sounds like he was in against a very light puncher and so we didn't a great deal about the real condition he's in. A bit like putting say, Arsenal up against Fulham or Stoke or Hull . . .

it's odd how cosell calls the foreman-lyle fight. in part 2, when lyle has foreman staggering around the ring, foreman is "george". when foreman gets lyle on the ropes, he becomes "foreman" again. lyle is "lyle" throughout.

I saw a compilation of Ali Cossell quips there, it was totally hilarious.
Even funnier was Ali on this is your life when Joe Frazier comes out, Ali nearly collapses in shock. Brilliant tv.

Cosell used to do that name switching thing with fighters he liked, I think as part of his schtick of being THE voice of boxing in the US.

Lyle was never good enough to rate a first name.
