Rebirth of the SILVER STRETCH in Motown
11-5 LIONS at 10-6 RAMS
LIONS win 27-17
0-7 Butler 22 yard INT return
7-7 Westbrook 26 yard TD reception
7-14 Faulk 51 yard TD run
14-14 Rogers 74 yard TD reception
14-17 Wilkins 38 yard FG
17-17 Hanson 35 yard FG
24-17 Murphy 5 yard TD reception
27-17 Hanson 34 yard FG
My heart sank when HARRINGTON threw an INT on the opening drive that was gleefully returned for a TD by JERAMETRIUS BUTLER.
But HARRINGTON miraculously kept his cool and kept the LIONS in the game, matching each RAMS score with a LIONS one, hitting MICHAEL WESTBROOK and CHARLES ROGERS for TDs.
The DETROIT D was enjoying a dominating day, holding to WARNER to less than 100 yards passing until late in the fourth quarter, and the RAMS could only do so much damage with FAULK on the ground, although he did escape for a 51 yard TD run.
At 17-17 in a tense ballgame the LIONS made their move, edging ahead when HARRINGTON hit backup TE MATT MURPHY for the score.
I expected our D to collapse against one of WARNER's patented fourth quarter comebacks , but instead it dug in brilliantly. TERRY FAIR applied the coup de grace with an INT in the final two minutes and a HANSON FG made the final margin of victory 10.
HARRINGTON finished the contest 15-22 for 313 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs. JAMES STEWART hammered out the tough yards on the ground with 14 carries for 73 yards. MICHAEL WESTBROOK had 5 catches for 90 yards and a score, while CHARLES ROGERS added 3 for 94 yards and the score.
