We take a young DE with speed 81 in the first because STRAHAN and PORCHER are both getting on a bit.

SB: 12-4 JAGUARS vs 13-3 LIONS
LIONS win 41-23
0-3 Boyd 41 yard FG
7-3 Rogers 56 yard TD reception
10-3 Swank 33 yard FG
10-10 Wallace 25 yard TD run
17-10 Dillard 49 yard TD reception
20-10 Swank 43 yard FG
27-10 Bennett 1 yard TD run
34-10 Rogers 27 yard TD reception
41-10 Woodson 92 yard INT return
41-17 Hartley 30 yard TD reception
41-23 Hartley 1 yard TD reception
(2 point conversion failed)
When the DALLAS COWBOYS shellacked the BUFFALO BILLS 52-17 at the Rose Bowl to win their first SUPER BOWL under JIMMY JOHNSON, it was famously said that only an earthquake could have stopped them. And that was how it looked as our young DETROIT LIONS tore the JAGUARS apart with a devastating combination of power and speed to claim the franchise's first ever SUPER BOWL title.
MATTHEW STAFFORD was named MVP for his 14 of 23 for 320 yards and 3 TDs performance, and he was most ably assisted by CHARLES ROGERS who caught 5 balls for 150 yards and 2 TDs.
But perhaps the real MVP was MICHAEL STRAHAN who logged three sacks and knocked JAGS starting QB BYRON LEFTWICH out of the game on one of them.
When backup SENECA WALLACE came in the JAGS had no chance. He did manage to rush for a TD to tie it at 10 but the LIONS then ripped off 31 points to lead 41-10. By then it was all over and two late consolation scores for the JAGS made the final scoreboard a little misleading.
AL HARRIS, playing at FS for the injured VONTAE DAVIS, was imperious, with 8 tackles and an INT.
SENECA WALLACE completed 17 of 28 for 212 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs, and ran 5 times for 77 yards and a score.

13-3 SAINTS at 13-3 LIONS
LIONS win 31-17
7-0 Dillard 25 yard TD reception
7-7 #45 30 yard fumble return
7-10 Howard 24 yard FG
14-10 Northcutt 5 yard TD reception
14-17 McAllister 2 yard TD run
21-17 Dillard 31 yard TD reception
28-17 Bennett 1 yard TD run
31-17 Swank 37 yard FG
Not a classic by any stretch of the imagination but the LIONS were fairly comfortable winners.
STAFFORD completed 19 of 30 for 305 yards, 4 TDs but also 2 INTs.
BENNETT hammered 14 times for 74 yards.
JARRETT DILLARD had a big day with 7 catches for 146 yards and 2 TDs.
BAILEY, PORCHER and STRAHAN all had sacks.
AARON BROOKS had a poor day, completing 14 of 28 for 154 yards and an INT. That came at the end of the game, when reserve S MARCUS YOUNG, only playing because the VONTAE DAVIS injury, snared the pick.

10-6 PACKERS at 13-3 LIONS
LIONS win 31-19
0-3 Longwell 20 yard FG
0-6 Longwell 20 yard FG
7-6 Rogers 76 yard TD reception
14-6 Bennett 19 yard TD run
14-12 Green 7 yard TD run
(2 point conversion failed)
21-12 Dillard 33 yard TD reception
24-12 Swank 51 yard FG
24-19 Green 1 yard TD run
31-19 Bennett 59 yard TD run
The PACK dominated early but could only come away with two LONGWELL 30 yard FGs and the LIONS made them pay for it.
MATTHEW STAFFORD had an up and down day completing 12 of 24 for 261 yards, 2 TDs, but 3 INTs.
MICHAEL BENNETT had a superb game, rushing 17 times for 117 yards and 2 TDs, including a 59 yard scamper that iced it.
CHARLES ROGERS also did well with 3 catches for 118 yards and a score.
MICHAEL STRAHAN added two sacks, but the D suffered a big blow when promising young FS VONTAE DAVIS was knocked out for the next few weeks, veteran AL HARRIS came in to start for him.
BRETT FAVRE was mostly frustrated, completing 16 of 30 for 185 yards and no TDs. AHMAN GREEN ran 16 times for 49 yards, a far cry from the dominating performances he used to display against us, although he did have 2 TDs.

We buy out some guys who were on some seriously big contracts, better to make this their final year on the roster than to keep their inflated salaries around in the future.
