Somerset get within 200 after a big six from Gregory, but they now have only four wickets in hand.

Well the tail didn't add much at all. Essex were all out for 183 but Somerset have also struggled this morning, sitting at 64/4 at lunch. They need another 205 from those six remaining wickets.

Hoping for one of those days where Harmer comes out and adds 30 before taking wicket after wicket. Got to keep an eye on the weather, too.

Essex finish the day on 164/6 with a lead of 249. Could be an interesting third day at Chelmsford.

End of the second session and Essex have started well. They're 57/1 so ahead by 142.

No probs. Those two are both in Division Two and have won just one match from a combined twelve so far this season, so it's a long way to the summit for them.

Given Somerset's history in this competition, a box seat is about as close to the title as a perch inside the scoreboard

They'll still be in the box seat even if Essex win this one. Essex only earned one more batting point than Somerset in the first innings so would narrow the gap (currently 30 points) by 17 points with a win, i.e. Somerset would still be 13 point ahead in the table.

And besides, a race is far more interesting than a procession, isn't it?

Aaron Beard doing the damage to Somerset so far. The Championship leaders are 96 for 6 after Essex scored 216 in their first innings.

I don't understand. Why are we off for bad light when the floodlights are on? If floodlights can't be used why were they turned on?

This is the first time I've seen Warks live in probably 30 years surprised at how much I want them to do well.
