What cricket there is is an absolute bowlers' paradise. Kent all out for 59, setting Somerset 30 to win, which they shouldn't crow about getting just yet. Would like Somerset to win the title, if we (Essex) don't.

I'd love Somerset to pull it off for the very first time.

Listening to the Surrey v Yorkshire game. What is the rule re: runners for injured batsmen? Or don't tail-enders like Olivier get the treatment that an opener might be granted?

This. Like to think that Essex will get some momentum going soon though (if it's possible to do so in a fragmented season) having got four away games out of the way in the first five.

Haha, amazing take from Foakes here, but keep your eye on the suddenly-redundant first slip...

That is an astonishing victory for Somerset over Kent, they are now 26 points clear at the top of the county championship with ten days until their next game against Somerset.

That sounds like a tricky fixture though

                    Sorry, against Essex.

                      Div 1

                      Somerset W5 L0 D1
                      Hants W3 L1 D2
                      Yorks W2 L0 D4
                      Essex* W2 L1 D2
                      Surrey W0 L2 D4
                      Kent W1 L4 D1
                      Warks* W1 L3 D1
                      Notts W0 L3 D3

                      * game in hand

                      Next matches:
                      Essex v Hants (Sun-Wed)
                      Kent v Notts (Mon-Thu)
                      Yorks v Warks (Mon-Thu)

In a way the break might help Somerset as either Essex, Hants or both will be dropping points.

                        So.

Any of the York cadre going to the Warwickshire match next week?

Neither, as we now know it's against Essex.

Bloody hell. Didn't keep tabs on Essex v Hants day one yesterday but already 60% of the wickets have fallen.

                              Hants 118 ao
                              Essex 214 ao
                              Hants 18/4

Hants are 78 short of making Essex bat again, with six wickets remaining.

Only one batting point picked up there of course. Which is very beneficial for Somerset I suppose.

Five down, Donald goes with an aggressive slog sweep off Harmer - gets taken. Still 70 behind.

Six now. Fuller leaves one that nipped back from Harmer and is lbw on the back leg.

Harmer has 4 for 11 at the moment.

Make that five. Bloody hell, Harmer again. A dot ball followed by another wicket. Hants are 32/7.

One ball left in the over - a three-wicket maiden perhaps...?

Edit - no, just the two.

Kyle Abbott is going for this. I think he's the top scorer already and has moved Hants on to 59/7.

Abbott holes out to RtD from Beard's bowling. It's 61/8 and Hants are still 35 behind.

Abbott wasn't the top score as Weatherley carried his bat for 29 off 80.

Essex win by an innings and 8 runs. Harmer took seven wickets in this innings including the ninth wicket (Crane), which was amusing as Wheater spilled the catch but managed to kick the ball into the air, and it was held by RtD.

Essex up to third but still 30 points behind Somerset, with both teams having now played six matches.

I noticed today that Derbyshire's Luis Reece both opens the batting and opens the bowling for his county.
