Milan-Sanremo was a great advert for the splendour of the Ligurian coast. I spent most of the second half of the race flicking through travel websites. Unfortunately the area's prices rival its beauty.Last edited by Rogin the Armchair fan; 24-03-2019, 09:47.

Mathieu Van der Poel becomes the first non-World Tour rider to win a World Tour classic since Enrico Gasparotto won Amstel Gold in 2016.
Ellen Van Dijk impressively rode away from a pack that included AVV, Longo Borghini, Brand and other strong riders with 12 km to go to win by more than 30 seconds.

To get in the mood for the weekend, a terrific "behind the scenes" documentary on last year's Ronde (men and women)
Mostly in Dutch, but the subtitles (in Dutch) help, and there is quite a bit of Rob Hatch and Rob Hales, plus DS who speak in English.

Enjoyed the Ronde yesterday, albeit with the caveat that my stream managed to fall over during Bettiol's move on the Kwaremont. Impressive stuff from Van der Poel, that was a weird crash he had with about 60k to go and seeing him hold his shoulder looked like the familiar "broken collarbone" gesture, yet not only did he get back on but contributed to the pacemaking and came fourth. Assume he'll be on the World Tour next season. Good stuff from Asgreen coming second given that he was a late replacement for Senechal.
Best thing I can say about Kirby's commentary was that he was less annoying than in Dwars door Vlaanderen.

Ah, glad to hear that you saw it. I had come to think you were away.
Extremely impressive from Bettiol, who gives all indications of being a classic 25 year old Tuscan who loves his mother to bits.
We were surprised at Deceunick's tactics. The only explanation is that none of their four leaders had the legs yesterday.

I had Lampaert as my pre-race pick, he was always there in the front group but never really poked his nose to the front. Stybar just looked as if he was on an off day and it's tempting to wonder if Gilbert is just starting to be past his best now.
